Simran Asawa
Simran is a Ph.D. student in the Aceto lab. She received her Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) majoring in Biotechnology from National Institute of Technology Warangal, India. During her undergrad, she was offered two fully funded semesters under Erasmus Mundus Euphrates Student Exchange Program at Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Poland. Further, she pursued her M.Sc. in Translational Medical Research from University of Heidelberg, Germany. During her master’s thesis, she was working with Dr Katja Brietkopf-Heinlein focusing on developing 3D culture models for colorectal cancer liver metastasis. Following this, she worked for two years in Dr Karuna Ganesh’s lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. Her major work there was focused on developing patient-derived organoid-T cell coculture models for studying patient-specific therapeutic responses and biomedical applications in Gastrointestinal cancers. She is also a networking and science communication enthusiast who loves traveling and exploring different cultures.
